Commonly Asked Questions

Where are orders received?
- Orders will be arranged for customer pick-up at our processing facility in High River Alberta.

How much meat is in a side of beef, and what does it cost?
- The typical weight of a side of beef after butchering and packaging is approximately 200 to 225 lbs (depending on butchering instructions). This would take up approximately a quarter of an averagely sized freezer. A typical order would consist of approximately four, 3/4 full boxes measuring 2 ft x 1 ft x 1 ft. A typical side would cost approximately $1,000.00 (prices subject to seasonal price fluctuations in the market, i.e. feed costs, steer costs, etc.) Based on past analysis of specific cuts and weights, savings of up to 20% compared to regular prices in a typical retail environment are possible.

Typically how long will it feed our family?
- Most of our customers find that a side will feed a family of four anywhere from 7 to 11 months. Due to the high standards of wrapping demanded from our butcher, the meat keeps in pristine condition significantly longer than a 12 month period.
- For a family of two we recommend you split a side with another couple.

How old are the Steers at the time of butchering?
- Our steers average approximately 16 months of age. Because they are still quite young this ensures an extremely high quality, tender product.

Do I get special cuts, the way I like them?
- You will be contacted by our order specialist prior to butchering, to ensure your orders are custom cut to your desire. Other custom work such as Jerky, Sausage, and Corned Beef are also available and the additional cost for this is passed on to you at the butchers' cost for preparation only.
